korea oh korea

3 April 2010 - Saturday

I'm so excited! This is the first time that I have gone overseas after a long long time (well if you minus out Singapore and Sarawak (that's a different story) Imagine going to the land where they produce, tear flowing, gut renching, soap opera dramas like Winter Sonata,Iris,I'm Sorry I love you, Tears in Heaven (oops my mistake, thats an Eric Clapton song :P) hmmmm if I can remember, oh yeah Stairway to Heaven, Autumn inMy Heart and my all time favorite that open me to kdramas is My Lovely Kim Sam Soon. I haven't forgotten the doll face girl groups like Girl Generation and T.ara and the equally pretty face boy bands like Super Junior, CN Blue and of course Rain that has left girls and guys (admit it) swooning all over the world.

My story started early Saturday morning. It was 8.00 o'clock in the morning and the apartment that I was staying in was bustling with activity. My brother and I haven't finish packing yet! T-shirts, pants and socks were flung everywhere as we tried to organise our clothes for the next five days trip. Pffftttt anyone who knows me knows that Syazlin and organising does not mix , it's like trying to mix coffee with juice .....yucko! I'll make the packing story short , by 9.30 our bags were laid at the side of the door, while I ate breakfast and my brother was still searching for something. I was suppose to get the car while my brother waited for me at the ground floor.

I got the car part right..... I was happily driving out of the parking lot and was just turning out to the street in front of the apartment.....when it hit me....I forgot my brother!I made a U turn back and saw him standing along at the ground floor parking lot...Heehehehhe good thing he didn't know that I totally forgot about him. Off we go......

The plan was that we were to got back to Seremban in the morning, get everything ready and set off to the airport in the evening. Our plane was at 9.15 pm. PLENTY of time!

7.00pm - we reached the airport. I know, loads of time to waste before we checked in but the Pn Nur Ihsan - our team leader from CS Travel (she's awfully nice) wanted to be sure that none of us would miss the plane. There were 13 people in our group headed towards Seoul. I was taken aback at first because most of them are to be frank, way older then me, the only young people (young here means below 35) is yours truly, my brother, my two cousins (blessed them as it was their idea and their mom's to go on this trip) and a pretty young lady, who followed her father.
We were all an odd group, apart from myself, my brother, my cousins and my aunty, the rest of them were related to each other. (Please don't ask me who is related to who as I seriously do not remember :P)I was thinking that maybe it wouldn't be fun since there wasn't much youngsters around, boy was I wrong..looking back ,these people made a lot of noise and made the trip so enjoyable, if it wasn't for them I dare say it would have definitely been a boring as they were so lively and full of jokes, that we(the youngsters) would laugh and grin whenever they talk and joke or poking fun at each other.

Ok detour back to the story. We checked in around 8pm and got on the plane before 9.15pm. It was a long 6 hours flight to Incheon, we had an hour stop at KK before continuing our journey to Korea. 6 hours of traveling , sure I manage to slip a few hours of sleep but man my body was stiff as a stick when we arrived Incheon at 7 am. No wonder they have pamphlets on how to relax our body during a long flight. I definitely cannot strecth my legs or bend my feet and move my body to the side. imagine what a catastrophy it will be if I accidently knock the air-stewardess pushing the food cart down the aisle or what if I poke my cousin (who was sleeping soundly beside me with my kneecap at my feeble attempt to exercise.

4 April 2010 - 7.15 am

All of us walked into the airport. It was HUGE. They even have a H1N1 detector at one of the counters we had to walk by. don't get me started on the toilet, they even have a plastic cover on the sitting which will rotate a fresh new plastic cover at a push of a button ! Cool! There are signage everywhere in English and Korean. After collecting our baggages (which was super fast , we went to our baggage section and lo behold our bag came out, there was no waiting. (how cool is THAT!) All 13 of us collected our bags and went to custom. I was a little bit afraid at the customer counter as there was this big (I believe labador dog) sniffing at every bags. What if his saliva fell on my bag -where on earth was I going to find dirt to 'SAMAK' it. Turn out luck was on our side or either that the dog knew that we are muslims and totally didn't pay attention to our bags. (Ok I was snub by a DOG!)

We went out of the airport and was greated by a tall , big size, spectacled Korean man, wearing a suit. He spoke to us in good English. He was our tour guide for the whole four days trip. Come to think of it,when my cousin pointed it out,he did look a little like Hero Nakamura :) His name was Joseph.

The weather there was cold. Ice cold, I believe it was 5 degrees calcius, the moment we step outside we were greeted by the windy chills. Automaticly I slip on the jacket that I had brought along. To show how cold it was, puff of smoke came out whenever we talked. Thankfully, Joseph ushered us to an awaiting mini bus. It was sooooo comfortable inside.
The Incheon Airport or Inchoen itself is an island not far from the city (about 30 minutes I believe but I didn't take note of the time, I was too busy enjoying the warmth of the bus!!)

We passed by the ocean as Joseph read out our itiniary. There was some changes made. Due to the abnormal weather (it snowed two weeks before we came) we were unable to see the sakura flower. All of us were pretty disappointed at this.I mean it would be pretty romantic to drag some unfortunate korean soul underneath a cherry blossom tree :P Joseph said with some luck we might see some blossom within the next two or three days..Snifff no Sakura festival :(
Our first stop was the Korean Memorial Museum , located in Seoul itself. It's big....much much bigger then the TUgu Negara. There were flags from all the countries in the world in front of the Memorial entrance, statuettes of soldiers fighting in the 1953 Korean War stood majesticly outside the museum with exhibition of war planes and tankers used during the war.
